Our £4m Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Centre was opened in September 2016. The state-of-the-art training facility was designed to help meet the growing demand locally for highly-skilled workers by enabling students to develop skills on real-life projects for companies ranging from major employers to SMEs.
The facility, stood at 1,663sq metres with double-height provision to accommodate large projects, had classroom space for up to 450 higher education students and 1,150 apprentices on science, technology and engineering apprenticeships and HNC and degree programmes in engineering manufacturing and electrical and electronic engineering. In April 2018, the AMTC was named Cumbria and the Isle of Man’s ‘Building of the Decade’ in a competition run by BBC’s North West Tonight, in association with Insider Media.
The scheme involved the construction of a new advanced manufacturing and technology centre within the existing Furness College campus.
