Women in Construction Week 2026: Highlighting Susan Mossop

This week marks the start of Women in Construction Week, and we are continuing to highlight some of the women in our construction team. Next up is Susan Mossop, Project Manager.
Susan has been with Thomas Armstrong Construction for 24 years.
In her role as a Project Manager at Thomas Armstrong, Susan’s day-to-day work is highly responsive. Her duties involve dealing with all defect liability issues covering all Thomas Armstrong projects during the defect liability period. She also covers service and maintenance and variations on two busy PFI projects.
When asked about a project she is particularly proud of, Susan noted: "Following the floods in 2009, the police station in Workington was badly affected and the main section of the building was unusable. It was TA's job to install temporary accommodation to allow them to have a base in the town, while at the same time carrying out the necessary works to refurbish the building and maintaining a workable environment for the police until we completed."
Industry Evolution Having been in the industry for over two decades, Susan has seen a noticeable rise in the volume of women in construction, most noticeably within trade. She observes that women have a great ability to see round problems and multitask, which is of great benefit to the industry. She notes that it is great to see a previously untapped resource finally filtering through.
Advice for the Next Generation Regarding young women considering an apprenticeship or a role in this field, Susan would say: "It can be challenging but also very rewarding, ask questions, speak up and always be ready to learn, you will be surrounded by years of experience take advantage of it."
She highlights that the industry offers a unique environment where you can learn from those around you while building a rewarding career.
We are proud to have Susan as part of our team here at Thomas Armstrong.
