Women in Construction Week 2026: Highlighting Sarah Murray

To conclude Women in Construction Week, we are sharing our final highlight from our construction team. Today we feature Sarah Murray, Civils Estimator.

Sarah joined the Thomas Armstrong Group in July 2017.

Her Role at Thomas Armstrong

Working within the Civil Engineering Department, Sarah’s day-to-day role involves producing tender submissions. Her duties include analysing tender documents, producing bills of quantities from drawings, and issuing enquiries for materials and subcontractors. Sarah also conducts site visits and handles tender finalisation meetings and meetings with clients.

When asked about a project she is particularly proud of, Sarah noted: "The HIP Car Park for BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness."

With over 35 years of experience in the construction industry, Sarah has seen a significant shift in the landscape. She observes that most changes have been positive, noting that a woman is no longer seen or treated as a novelty in the field. She also points to practical improvements in the working environment, noting that women now have dedicated facilities on sites.

Regarding young women considering an apprenticeship or a role in this field, Sarah would say: "If you’re looking for a fulfilling, varied career and enjoy meeting people I would recommend a career in construction. Being involved in creating or improving something is very rewarding. You’ll never be bored."

We are proud to have Sarah as part of our team here at Thomas Armstrong.

Thank you for following along this week as we celebrated the incredible women who are an integral part of our success!
