Women in Construction Week 2026: Highlighting Julie Dixon

This week marks the start of Women in Construction Week, and to kick things off, we want to highlight some of the women in our construction team. Starting off this week is Julie Dixon, Senior Quantity Surveyor.
Julie joined the Thomas Armstrong Group on 6th January 2025 and has been with the company for just over a year.
Working within the Construction Department, Julie’s day-to-day role involves overseeing local construction projects. Her duties include negotiating with subcontractors, managing change control, on-site measuring, and working under the NEC3, NEC4, and JCT forms of contract.
When asked about a project she is particularly proud of, Julie noted:
"I enjoy seeing the progress and completion of every project. Coroners Court is the only project I have worked on that has been completed so far. This was an enjoyable project to work on with really nice clients, and we have provided a really great space for the coroners and their team to relocate to."
Having started in the industry in 2005, Julie has seen significant changes. While she notes that the field is still very much male-dominated - especially in on-site trades - there are more women in construction now than when she began. She observes that there are many more women working in senior, off-site, or technical roles compared to the early 2000s, with women now making up around 14-15% of the construction workforce.
Regarding young women considering an apprenticeship or a role in this field, Julie would say:
"I would say this is certainly a career worth exploring, with QS apprenticeships being highly respected. It would suit someone who is organised and likes structure. It isn’t just about being good at maths, you also need to be able to communicate, negotiate, make judgements and overcome challenges."
She also highlights that there is a high demand for QS’s across many sectors including construction, infrastructure, utilities, and development.
"This means that there is less risk of redundancy and higher job security than with other roles. It can also be very rewarding to work on a project and then see that project through to completion, knowing that you played a role in that."
We are proud to have Julie as part of our team here at Thomas Armstrong Construction.
Keep an eye on our news feed all week as we continue to highlight more of the amazing women in our construction team!
